This scarce two volume edition of Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen was published in 1892 and 1896 by J M Dent and Company. Each book is uniformly bound in pale green cloth with gilt titles and decoration. The front covers features a gilt facsimile of Jane Austen’s signature and the Austen family coat of arms is reflected in the gilt stag.
The books are in good condition for their age, but have been priced to reflect some of the condition points. There are some small holes in the cloth along the external joints and a slightly larged hole in the cloth covering volume one's spine. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth, and there is also a split to the bottom of the front joint of volume two. The two volumes have a slightly different colour cloth (they were published four years apart so I would guess that a previous owner paired two odd volumes to create a set). There is sunning to the spine and light marking to the boards. The corners are lightly worn and bumped and both volumes show a slight forward lean.
Inside, both volumes have a name plate glued to the front pastedown and the endpapers are tanned. The pages show age toning and sporadic foxing (most noticeable to the tissue guards, title pages and frontispieces). There are occasional marks and cracks to the gutters but the pages remain tightly bound. The books feature rough cut pages which is a lovely feature in old books. Each volume has three beautiful black and white illustration plates which make these a real treasure.

All books purchased will be hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon (the ribbon I use is either made from 100% recycled plastic or woodpulp).
